About
PSUMobile is a platform for students and faculty interested in teaching and doing research on mobile computing and especially on location-based services. Undergraduates and graduate students work together on cutting edge research to acquire applied as well as theoretical skills in a team setting. The ongoing project for Spring 2011 kicked-off with a Friday night Hackathon in February and is named 'Volunteered Geographic Services' (VGS). The underlying motivation is to take the successful volunteered geographic information community to the next level by developing a service infrastructure to contribute micro-services in addition to information. For instance, users can broadcast a request, e.g., because they need help to get their car out of the snow, using an App running on their Android phone. This request will then be received by other, nearby VGS users that may react to it and offer support. The requested services may range from emergency situations to coordinate volunteers on the ground to tiny requests about the driving conditions. Contact Krzysztof Janowicz for further questions.
